Contrasting and grand, lively past with the decaying present…

Imagine finding fragments of patterns, painted and etched onto the walls of a ruined Venice in a future archaeological dig. What would we make of them? We might guess the stories and decipher historical facts, but fully understanding their significance is a different matter. These small paintings were most probably influenced by the amazing murals they are continuing to uncover in Pompeii right now.
